Maple Heart Ranch

Magical farm cottage in the middle of the woods.

Pros: Almost magical place in the middle of the woods. The host (Conny) was hospitable and helpful, nice person. Breakfast was very rustic and super delicious. This accommodation exceeded our expectations.

Cons: A bit difficult to find this place. On the other hand, this added a scent of adventure to our experience.

Stay, you won't regret it!

Pros: We only got to stay one night, but it was a great one! From the deafening silence after the animals have gone to bed, to the ink black skys lit up by a million stars, through to 6am rooster calls, warning off hawks, dogs chasing off bears. Oh, and don't forget the wonderful array of animals (goats, chickens, pigs, ducks, guinea fowl, horses, donkey) and breakfast brought to you...amazing 5 star place. The place is off the beaten track, but has cell service. You drive on a 4km gravel track to the place, it has plenty of potholes on the way and you may wonder where you're off to! It'll take 10 to 15 mins driving slowly, but it's a great adventure just to get there.

Cons: We didn't see the bear that the dogs chased off.

Rural escape

Pros: The coziness of the cabin, the farm animals, the rural location, the peacefulness of being out in nature, sitting on the porch watching the rain come down.

Cons: Could have used a fire poker/ wood tong set and / or a fire retardent mitt for the wood fireplace. Only there for two nights so made due. Sofa bed a little springy.

Pros: Absolutely gorgeous off the grid cabin! There is a rain water shower and a few hours of electricity from a generator. Lots of animals including an occasional black bear. What more do you need?

Pros: Great place away from civilization :D we enjoyed a quiet and simple stay among nature and animals a lot, lovely and kind host, delicious breakfast

Pros: Breakfast, host, clean interior, interaction with ranch animals, experience, lots of fun surprises!

Pros: Wonderful place. You have to rent a Car to come to that place, but it was worth it. It was how it was descripted. Friendly owner and animals, nice breakfast. You can choose the time when she should bring it to you. Next time I would stay longer. There would be a Kitchen too. Watch out, other persons in the comments told that in the direction from victoria to Nanaimo they ate for Dinner in a rest Stop next to the Highway near Malahat with a nice View on the bay, but this Restaurant was closed. So for Dinner you have to search Something Else or you buy Things for cooking By yourself.

Rustic but comfortable and scenic - the horseback riding was a lot of fun.

Pros: The ranch was exactly as advertised which I appreciate the most. It is off the electric and water grid but the owner's innovations made up for it. All the animals looked well cared for. Breakfast was delicious and the owner brings it right to your cabin at the time of your choosing.

Cons: It's a long drive off the main road and the road needs a lot of work.

All the best adventures are found taking a dirt road.

Pros: Back to basics! Breakfast was delicious. We lucked out with weather and had sunshine and the frogs croaking in the night with some snow in patches still on the ground. Farm animals were all very awesome and interesting. It was neat watching the crows interact with the chickens and ducks. The cabin was every kids dream come true.. super cute! The trail ride was amazing.. so glad we got to go. Host was accommodating and friendly. Can’t wait to visit again.

Cons: It’s was cold at first and in the morning. Wood stove heated quickly but wish we brought slippers. Got up earlier than the kids to light the fire. Makes you appreciate what we take for granted at home. To be expected just finishing winter here in BC.

Pros: Nous avons dormi deux nuits au ranch. La cabine était confortable bien que l'électricité soit sur générateur. Nous avons adoré le cadre et la proximité avec les animaux. Colleen est très accueillante et le petit déjeuner délicieux!
